A unique system for determining the base number in both petroleum based and synthetic based oil. The kit brings accurate and reliable total base number analysis, and requires no calibration or instrumentation and uses no dangerous solvents or chemicals. TBN (Total Base Number) is the measure of reserve alkalinity (base) added to lubricating oils to protect the engine from the corrosive effects of acids formed during the combustion of fuels containing sulfur. The kit comes with a preset fixed volume disposable sampling syringe that is used to take the oil sample for testing, and the test provides a colorimetric determination of TBN between 0 and 20 mg KOH per gram of sample, showing the TBN number of the side of the burette. The kit comes in 20 tests (individually packaged) per carton.
